Hancock, Hattie C. (20 Mar. 1898 – 22 Jul. 1972)

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, for Mrs. Austin Hancock, 74, of 300 S. Concord Ave., who was found dead early Monday at her home following a lengthy illness.

The Rev. Theodore Krueger, associate pastor, will officiate and burial will be made in the North Spencer cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hansen Chapel Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday until 11 a.m. and then at the church. World War I Auxiliary services will be held at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The former Hattie C. Schwantes was born March 30, 1898 at Spencer and received her education in the town of Brighton. She lived in Spencer until her marriage April 18, 1917 to Herman Manthe who died May 20, 1950. They had farmed in the township of Unity until 1945 and then came to Marshfield. On July 5, 1952 she was married to Austin Hancock who died Jan. 17, 1971. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the World War I Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, Leroy Manthe, Homosassa, Fla.; a stepson, Austin Hancock Jr., Madison; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lenora Miller, Milwaukee; Mrs. Howard (Vera) Smith, Arizona; and Mrs. Lena Brown, Omaha, Neb.

She also was preceded in death by a son Valerious, Oct. 19, 1970; a brother; a sister; a granddaughter, and a great-granddaughter.
