Lex, Nick (9 Apr. 1844 – 7 Oct. 1930)

Nick Lex, a Civil War veteran, age eighty-six years, five months and twenty-eight days, died at the home of his daughter and son in law, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Stadtmuller, Tuesday morning, October 7th, heart trouble being the cause of his death. Funeral services will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic church Friday morning at 9:30 o’clock, Rev. H. Lachnit officiating, and internment will take place in the Colby Catholic cemetery. Members of the Colby post of the American Legion will turn out and give the deceased veteran military honors.

His departure is mourned by six daughters and two sons, his wife and three children having preceded him to the distant shore. The children still living are Mrs. J. J. Stadtmuller of Colby; Mrs. James Keller, Chicago; Mrs. W. S. Marjobanks, Chicago; Mrs. Tom O’Connel, Chicago; Mrs. George Bork, Oshkosh; Mrs. Theresa Bouser, Portland, Oregon; Nick Lex,, Jr., West Allis; Ed. Lex, Quarry, Wis.

The deceased was born in Germany and came to this country with his parents when nine years of age. He lived in the eastern part of the state until twenty-eight years ago when he bought a farm one mile west of Colby which he worked until fifteen years ago when he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. J. J. Stadtmuller. He was a veteran of the Civil War and served in the United States army for four years during that war. His wife died about twenty-four years ago.
