History: The Colby Phonograph (21 May 1884)
Surnames: DRIESE POTTER ---Source: THE TRIBUNE-PHONOGRAPH (Clark County, Wis.) Vol. 47, No. 21, p. 4 Wednesday, 05/23/2007 The cigar factory of C. A. Driese is not fairly in running order, as yet, though it is getting there rapidly. The new addition to his building is 19X38 feet, two stories high and fitted off into work rooms, a sales room and living rooms. He will soon have four competent cigar makers at work and will then be able to fill the orders of his numerous customers. Mr. Driese will make several brands of cigars, the “One of the Old Time,” a hand made cigar, will be his best brand, the “Fata Morgana,” will be the second brand and both will be first rate ten cent cigars. For a five cent cigar, he will have two or three brands among which will be found the “Lilly,” and “Our Little Ones,” both of which will be equally as good as any purchased in Milwaukee or Chicago for the same money. We hope cigar dealers, along the line, and in this village, especially, will patronize this home industry and feel confident that if they do they will be well satisfied. Capt. O. R. Potter has taken full possession of the Colby House and says he doesn’t want any puff as he is going to make the house speak for itself. If he makes as many improvements inside as he has been making outside, it will be a first-class house, indeed. The Georgia Minstrels gave an alleged entertainment in Colby Hall, last Thursday evening to a pretty fair sized audience. The entertainment, though not up to the standard of minstrel shows, generally would not, perhaps, had appeared so stale if the attention of the audience had not been called away from the performance by the heavy storm prevailing at the time. |
