History: Abbotsford Tribune (Thur., May 28, 1925)
Surnames: CORNELIUS HAMEL HUGOBOOM Source: THE TRIBUNE-PHONOGRAPH (Clark County, Wis.) Vol. 47, No. 21, p. 4 Wednesday, 05/30/2007 Large Crowd Enjoys Concert The concert and dance given by Hamel’s Tri-City Band was one of the very enjoyable affairs of the season. This band, as stated before in these columns, is an aggregation of musicians from the cities of Dorchester, Abbotsford and Colby, and is under the direction of Mr. M. Hamel who lives just West of Abbotsford and Dorchester. The concert was a very pleasing mixture of overtures, marches and novelty selection by the entire band, also brass quartets and duets, the later being accompanied on the piano by Wayne Hugoboom of Dorchester. The only solo on the program was a cornet solo by Elmer Cornelius of Abbotsford, the youngest member of the band. Elmer has a marked ability as a coming cornetist and will surely be heard from at no great future date as a musician of the first class. After the concert an orchestra composed of members of the band furnished excellent music for the dance, which was participated in by a large number of people from the above three mentioned cities. Taken in all the concert and dance was very satisfactory to the members of the band as they are very well satisfied with the patronage and it has also placed a neat addition to the treasury of the organization. The outdoor concerts of the season will be started in about three weeks, according to present plans. The band will play a concert in each of the three cities, thus giving each city the benefit of a band many much larger cities would be pound to claim. |
