Ockerlander, Harry (17 NOV 1889 – 10 DEC 1936)

Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.) friends will be shocked to learn of the sudden death of Harry Ockerlander, who passed away at Milwaukee Thursday morning. Details have not been received concerning his death, but it is believed that it was caused by heart trouble. There had been no word of ill health from him and his passing came as a complete shock to everyone.

Mr. Ockerlander was born in Milwaukee Nov. 17, 1889 and was 47 years and 23 days old at time of death. He grew to young manhood there and on Nov. 27, 1912 was united in marriage to Miss Clara Schubert. After living in Milwaukee for several years, Mr. and Mrs. Ockerlander moved to their farm one mile west of Dorchester in the fall of 1920. Mrs. Ockerlander passed away on Oct. 15, 1933 and the following year, Mr. Ockerlander and his two sons, Harry Jr. and Robert, moved to Milwaukee where the former has been employed since then.

Besides his two sons, Mr. Ockerlander leaves his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Ockerlander, Milwaukee; one sister, Mrs. R.F. Weber, Milwaukee; and two brothers, Lawrence of Milwaukee and John Ockerlander of Dorchester.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the Niemann Undertaking Parlors at Milwaukee for Harry R. Ockerlander, who passed away at his home at 1216 E. Russell Ave. at 6:15 last Thursday morning, Dec. 10, 1936. Death was due to hardening of the arteries. The service was conducted by the Rev. Paul Wendt and interment was made in the Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery.

Mr. Ockerlander had been in good health and his death came as a shock to everyone. He had risen on that morning to prepare breakfast for himself before going to work, as was his habit. Shortly before six o’clock he called his mother, with whom he was living, and informed her that he was ill. She immediately called a doctor from a nearby phone, but when the doctor arrive Mr. Ockerlander had passed away.

Harry Robert Ockerlander was born at Milwaukee Nov. 17, 1889, the son of John and Elizabeth Ockerlander. He grew to young manhood there and on Nov. 27, 1912, he was united in marriage to Clara Schubert at Milwaukee. After living there for several years, the Ockerlanders came to Dorchester in 1920 and settled on their farm one mile west of the village on Country Trunk A. Following Mrs. Ockerlander’s death on Oct. 15, 1933, Mr. Ockerlander and his sons Harry Jr. and Robert, remained on the farm until last summer when Mr. Ockerlander accepted a position as sales engineer for the Filer and Stowell Co. and left for there. The boys followed him later in the year and have made their home in Milwaukee since then.

Mr. Ockerlander was a member of the Christus Church and Knights of Pythias. He recently joined the Milwaukee Turenverein, a singing society, and had enjoyed several appearances with them recently. During his years here, Mr. Ockerlander found many friends who enjoyed his genial and frank nature and who will greatly miss him from their circle of friends.

He is survived by his two sons, Harry and Robert, his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Ockerlander, Milwaukee, one sister, Mrs. R.F. Weber of Milwaukee, and two brothers, Lawrence of Milwaukee, and John of Dorchester. He is also survived by eight nieces and nephews, Miss Elizabeth and Paul Weber, Thomas and Donald Ockerlander of Milwaukee; Mrs. Francis Melvin, Abbotsford, Jack, Carl and Doris Ockerlander of Dorchester.
