Surnames: LINDNER HECKER BLISH TESSMER EDER KOLITSCH FIENT ---Source: COLBY PHONOGRAPH (Colby, Clark County, Wis.) 04/14/1932 Hecker, Minnie (17 Sept. 1852 – 10 Apr. 1932) Mrs. Minnie Lindner Hecker, formerly of Colby, died at the old folks home at Oshkosh Monday, April 10, 1932, old age being the cause of her departure to the distant shore. Funeral services were held at the Colby M. E. church Wednesday, April 13th. Rev. F. M. Blish officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. The deceased, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lindner, (deceased), was born in West Prussia, Germany, September 17th, 1852, thus reaching the age of 79 years, 7 months and 7 days. She came to the United States in 1870, moving directly to Milwaukee. She was married to Albert Hecker in Milwaukee on August 9th, 1876, to which union fourteen children were born, nine of whom preceded her in death. Her husband died Feb. 8, 1923. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. C. P. Tessmer, Colby; Mrs. Amanda Eder, Fond du Lac; Henry Hecker, Oshkosh; Mrs. Anthony Kolitsch, Oshkosh; Mr. Dealo Hecker, Fond du Lac. Also the following brothers and sister: Fred Lindner, Colby; Chas. Lindner, Colby; Mrs. Gust Fient, Tomahawk. Also ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Hecker came to Colby April 9th, 1882, fifty years ago, and started a meat market south of Baer’s shoe shop. They left Colby in 1901 and located at Appleton where they operated the Farmers’ Hotel. When health failed, they sold the hotel and made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Kolitsch, where Mr. Hecker died. Mr. and Mrs. Hecker helped build St. John’s church and both were leaders in Christian work. They came to Colby when this locality was still a vast forest and their meat market was one of the first business places put up in Colby. They often remarked that it was a hard struggle. |
