Warren Carpenter, 26, reported missin in action in Normandy since D-Day, June 6, is now a German prisioner of war. The information was received yesterday by Victor L Carpenter, a brother of Cpl Carpenter who now resides on route 1 Spencer, formerly of Marshfield. The kriegagefangenenpost or " war prisioner post" card says in part: "Was wondede slightly and taken prisoner on D-Day. Thought I would be home by now or would have written sooner. Am in good health considering conditions. Tell the folks hello for me. Will try and write again." There is no information on the card which would indicate in what prison camp or what part of Germany Cpl Carpenter is being held prisoner. The card received here from Cpl Carpenter is the first word received since he was officially reported lost by the War Department on July 7. Up to yesterday no official word had been received that Cpl Carpenter was a prisoner. The veteran parachutist also took part in the first invasions of Sicily an Italy before being shifted to take part in the invasion of Normandy on June 6. He entered the Army in July 1941. He is the son of Mrs Carrie I. Carpenter, Milwaukee, and William Carpenter, who resides at Granton. |
