Obit: Pokallus, Carl (1859 – 1932) Surnames: POKALLUS HOFFMANN OSTERKY ZIMMERMAN WIEDENHOEFT KOBS LOGERQUIST PRIENN NAGEL ---Source: COLBY PHONOGRAPH (Colby, Clark County, Wis.) 01/05/1933 Pokallus, Carl (28 Sept. 1859 – 30 Dec. 1932) Carl Pokallus, an old resident of the city of Colby, died Friday afternoon, December 30, at two P.M., a stroke of paralysis being the cause of his departure to the distant shore. The deceased had been ill just twelve days. Funeral services were held at the Zion Lutheran church Tuesday afternoon at 2:00, following services at the house at 1:30 P.M., Rev. O. H. Hoffmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Sons acted as pall bearers. The deceased was born in East Prussia, Germany, September 28th, 1859, thus reaching the age of seventy-three years, three months and two days. He came to the United States in 1884 and to this locality the same year. He was married to Augusta Osterky in Colby in June 1885 to which union three children were born. His wife died on January 22, 1895, and, on January 25, 1896, he married Louise Zimmerman to which union seven children were born making a total of ten. Besides Mrs. Pokallus, all the children survive and are: Emil, Colby; Mrs. Gust Wiedenhoeft, Colby; Paul, Stetsonville; Arthur, Colby; Albert, Abbotsford; Henry, Colby; Mrs. Walter Kobs, Chicago; Mrs. Egert Logerquist, Chicago; Mrs. Lawrence Prienn of Weyerhaeuser; Mrs. August Nagel, Colby. The deceased had always been a good Christian, a faithful member of the Lutheran church, a good neighbor and a kind husband and father. He always performed his duties well and was well liked by all who knew him.
