They were married on September 7th, 1873, just sixty years ago, by the father of the late Senator Walsh. Fifty years ago, they moved onto a track of land in the town of Unity which, by hard and diligent work, they built into a splendid farm. This country was practically all wilderness at the time, trails were blazed through the woods and oxen were the chief bearers of burden. Twenty years ago, they sold their farm to their son, Paul, when they retired and moved to Colby. Like all our early pioneers, they endured many hardships but never forgot the early, friendly and hospitable ways. Mr. Mais is a member of the Zion Lutheran church of Colby and Mrs. Mais is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church, and, at present, both are enjoying perfect health. Four generations were present at the dinner Sunday. The children are: John Mais of Medford, Mrs. H. J. Welsch of Colby, Mrs. Chas. Frome of Manitowoc, Mr. Paul Mais of Unity.
