Bogumill, Joseph & Mary (Gold – 21 JUN 1937)

Several hundred relatives and friends helped Mr. and Mrs. Joseph S. Bogumill celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Monday, June 21, 1937.

Mr. and Mrs. Florian Anyzewski acted as witnesses at the services conducted at St. Bernard’s Church in Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), where Rev. A.M. Muckerheide, assisted by Rev. F.A. Kulig and Rev Krakowiecki, had the honored couple renew their wedding vows of June 21, 1887, made in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania.

The bride was attired in a beautiful gardenia tinted tulle charmuse gown set off by a rather unique corsage of varied colored tea roses and with a hat of contrasting color. The groom wore the conventional grey palm beach as did the best man, Mr. Anyzewski. Mrs. Anyzewski wore a gorgeous gold lace silk brocaded gown which was very appropriate for the occasion.

After the services at the church a bountiful banquet was served at the high school auditorium where more than one hundred relatives and close friends of the Bogumills’ ate and sang to their hearts’ content. Ed Bogumill, the youngest of their oldest sons, acted as toastmaster and kept the party at full speed. The Rev. A.M. Muckerheide gave a wonderful talk although he was not prepared to make a speech and had the gathering real interested in his message besides wishing the jubilarians many more happy anniversaries. Dancing was one of the main events of the afternoon and evening performances, and both young and old took part and really made the grand march and other dances, such as the side dip, circle two-step, waltzes, schottisches and the turkey trot dances of fifty years ago, a real treat for all, including the beginners as well as the old timers.

John Younkins of Homestead, Pa, brother of the bride, and who acted as best man at their wedding fifty years ago, was present, as were Mr. and Mrs. Bert Brandt, of Altoona, Pa. Mrs. Brandt is a sister of Mrs. Bogumill. Mrs. Ethel Younkins and son Tommy also drove out with the Brandts for the occasion, and marveled at the wonderful country here as her life has been spent in the smoky city of Pittsburgh.

Ten of the couple’s eleven children were in attendance with their children, the only one being sadly missed was tom, of Chicago, who was not able to attend on account of business. The children present were Gertrude (Mrs. Chas. Herman), Leon, John, Lucy (Mrs. Stan Manicki), Elizabeth (Mrs. Tom Polnaszek), Ed, Sophia (Mrs. John Huls), Frank, Catherine, all of Thorp, and Pauline (Mrs. Bill Stoker) of Madison. There were 41 grandchildren present to help celebrate and make the party a success.

Other guests from out of town attending were: Mrs. Tillie LaSota of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Schumann of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Odea Rust of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Swedersky of Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gorsk and family of Merrill, and Mr. and Mrs. George Pierce of New Glarus, Wis.

The honored couple received loads of beautiful gifts, also numerous floral bouquets, and after being given the best wishes of their many friends, adjourned to their home where they were entertained until the wee hours of the morning.

Mr. and Mrs. Bogumill expect to take a short honeymoon in company with Mr. and Mrs. Brandt who are also taking a belated honeymoon and will visit cities in the southern part of the state.

Mr. and Mrs. Bogumill will be at the old stand again in about two weeks.
