Meacham, Joan M. (Marriage – 10 May 1958)

Miss Joan M. Meacham and Erland R. Schweke exchanged marriage vows before the Rev. L. H. Holmes of LaCrosse, Saturday evening in a 7:30 o’clock ceremony. Scene of the wedding was Unity Methodist Church, Unity.

Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Meacham and Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Schweke, all of Spencer, are parents of the bridal couple.

Douglas Cook, soloist, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Gladys Loughead, sang the “Wedding Prayer” and sang “The Lord’s Prayer,” during the candlelight service. Candlelabra were placed on the altar.

Miss Meacham was given in marriage by her father and as she approached the altar she was wearing a white Chantilly lace dress. Fitted bodice, scalloped neckline with a scroll of sequins and pearls, and long tapered sleeves topped a full-length lace skirt in a redingote effect over nylon ruffled tulle. A crown-shaped headpiece held a finger-tip length veil. She carried a white Bible centered in pink roses.

Mrs. Clifford Rosenow, Wittenberg, was matron of honor, and Miss Marlene Taylor, Dorchester, was bridesmaid. They wore pink net dresses with fitted bodices, full length bouffant skirts accented with diamond-shaped lace surrounded by a ruffle. Pink lace jackets and bouquets of a calla lily centered in pink and white carnations complemented the dresses.

Carol and Randy Blair, Abbotsford, were flower girl and ring bearer.

Jerrald Meacham and DuWayne Matter, both of Spencer, were best man and groomsman. Ushers were Duane Meacham, Unity, and Lyle Blair, Abbotsford.

A reception was held in the church basement following the ceremony.

Mr. and Mrs. Schweke are both graduates of Spencer High School. She was employed at Malsin’s Style Shop, Marshfield, and her husband is engaged in farming.

After their return from a wedding trip to the West, they will reside on a farm near Unity.
