Surnames: Braatz, Davis, Harwood ---Source: The Clark County Press (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 21 May 1942 Braatz, Roberta Ruth (Marriage – 6 May 1942) Miss Robert Ruth Braatz and Everett Dan Davis were married by Rev. Maas at New London, Conn, the marriage taking place at 7:30 p.m. on May 6th in the Lutheran Redemptors Church of Christ. The attending couple was Mr. and Mrs. Garlyn Hardwood of Westerly, Conn. The bride wore a rose-colored ensemble with beige accessories and Mrs. Harwood was dressed in a darker rose suit with navy accessories. Both wore corsages of pink tea roses and white sweet peas. The groom and his attendant were in navy uniform. Many other shipmates attended the church services. After the ceremony, the bridal party went to the New Haven Road where a bountiful wedding dinner was awaiting them. Miss Braatz is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Braatz of Pleasant Ridge, a graduate of the Neillsville High School, later attending the Wisconsin Business College at La Crosse. She was employed as a waitress in Oconomowoc and Milwaukee until last summer when she took up stenographer’s duties. Mr. Davis is the son of Mr. Agnes Davis of Wauwatosa, Wis. A graduate of Oconomowoc High School, he joined the U. S. Navy in December, 1939. Being a crew member of the U. S. S. Savannah, he spent several months at Pearl Harbor. Later his ship was in harbors at Portland, Me., and other eastern coast cities. He also was a member of the ship’s choir. Recently he was transferred to New London, Conn., where he is taking a six month diesel engineering course, with submarine training. The couple now live a short distance from New London, at 146 W. Broad Street, Westerly, R. I.
