Barker, Arnold (12 Oct. 1916 – 6 Mar. 2004)

Arnold (Arnie) W. Barker, 87, of 942 Lina St., Mayville, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, March 6, 2004, at Manor Care in Fond du Lac.

He was born on Oct. 12, 1916, in the Town of Holton, the son of Seth and Louise Malchow Barker.

On June 8, 1940, he married Minnie M. Mueller at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford, Wis. Arnold worked in sawmills in Park Falls and retired from Maysteel Products. He also drove school bus for the Mayville School District. He was a member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Arnie enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards and latch hook projects. He also enjoyed playing Yahtzee with his family when they visited him at the nursing home.

Surviving are his children, Jerald (Delores) Barker of Kekoskee, Barbara (William) McCreary of Grosse Point Woods, Mich., Joyce (James) Mader of Newburg and Susan (James) Lehner of Mayville; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Nienow of Gains, Mo., and Elsie (Ralph) Woik of Owen, Wis.; grandchildren, Lisa (Bob) Sheahan, Lori (Dan) Feyen, Brian (Karen) Gerner, Brad (Sheri) Gerner, Jamie (Jamie) Schwoch, Aaron (special friend, Amber Kovalaske) Lehner; great-grandchildren, Becca and Brian Sheahan, Nick and Jenna Feyen, Gabriela, Brynn and Brooke Gerner; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2002; one son-in-law, Donald Gerner; two sisters; and one brother.

Services: Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville with the Rev. Edward Blonski and Vicar James Mallmann officiating. Burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery, Mayville.

Visitation: From 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. service Tuesday, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville.
