Ecco M. Clark, 89 of 1218 Dover St., Chippewa Falls, died Friday, January 16, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 17, 1914 in Owen, Wis. to Daisy (Graham) and Fred Johnson. She was raised in Owen until age 11, then moved to Hawkins and later, to Stanley.

Ecco married Dayton W. Clark on January 19, 1931 in St. Paul, Minn. They moved to Chippewa Falls, where she has lived since that time. After her daughter, Patricia’s death in 1972, Ecco, at age 58, took in her four grandchildren and raised them as her own: Barbara Armstrong, Donna Schmaltz, Jean Neira and Scott Retzlaff. Her husband, Dayton preceded her in death on April 9, 1978.

Survivors include a son, Richard W. (Shirley) Clark of Edgewater, Florida; a sister, Betty Moulton of Chippewa Falls; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two daughters, Sandra Lee Clark, Patricia Retzlaff; two sons, Gail Clark, William “Bill” Clark; a sister, June Berdal; four brothers, John, Reed, Gail and Dale Johnson; a sister-in-law, Ethel Clark of Chippewa Falls; two grandchildren, Roxi and Steven Clark; and one great-grandson, Brian Mattison.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Rick Hoyme of Central Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday and one half hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Ecco spent her life caring for others and giving of herself. She will be very dearly missed by all of her family; although she is now caring for her family members who left before her.
