Loehr, Delphine (Marriage – 5 Feb. 1940)

At a 9:30 o’clock solemn nuptial high mass on Monday morning, Feb. 5th, at St. John’s Catholic church, St. John, Wis., Miss Delphine Loehr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Loehr of St. John, became the bride of Leon Kesler, son of Mrs. Rose Kesler of Colby. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Alfred M. Loehr, Green Bay, a brother of the bride. Assisting him at the mass as deacon and sub-deacon were Rev. Peter Salm, pastor of St. John’s church, and the Rev. Lawrence Keppler of Sun Prairie, Wis. The Rev. Henry Schmidt of Birnamwood acted as the master of ceremonies. The bride was given away by her father.

Crisp faille silk fashioned the lovely gown of the bride which was styled with a tight fitting bodice and full gathered skirt. The neckline of the gown was in lovely sweetheart style, smartly set off by a beautiful seed pearl embroidered scarf which ended in a lover’s knot. Little clusters of seed pearls were scattered over the waist of the frock and over the upper part of the sleeves which were puffed at the shoulders, and tight fitting at the wrists. The clever bustle back of the gown ended in an usually long flowing train. The bride’s exquisite veil of sheerest bridal illusion was caught in place by a built up cluster of beautiful pearlized orange blossoms, and it fell in a soft face veil in front. The long wide train was finished with a wide hem, and rows of rich silk sticking. She carried a beautiful colonial bouquet of gardenias.

Attending the bride was her sister, Catherine, as maid of honor, and Anita Kesler, a sister of the groom, and Fidelia Loehr, a cousin of the bride, as bridesmaids. The maid of honor wore a gown of peacock blue taille silk with a shirred bodice, a sweetheart neckline and puffed sleeves. The dress was full skirted with a deep ruffle at the bottom and was trimmed with matching peacock blue velvet ribbon. Both bridesmaids wore faille taffeta princess style-gowns of Spanish raisin color with puffed sleeves and wore bow tiaras of velvet in their hair. They carried beautiful bouquets of colonial flowers. Irvin Kesler, brother of the groom, attended him as best man.
