Meier, age 72, died at the Memorial Medical Center on Thursday, October 11, 2007, following a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Neillsville. October 24, 2007 Arthur James Meier, age 72, died at Memorial Medical Center, on Thursday, October 11, 2007, following a lengthy illness. He was born June 13, 1935 in Neillsville to the late Arthur G. and Bessie Meier. Jim (Jimmy) graduated from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran School in 1949. He farmed for his father in his early years. Jim married Irene Dux in 1953. He worked for the American Stores Condensery and Tibbett Ice and Fuel for ten years. In 1963 Jim relocated his family to Crystal Lake, IL, where he began truck driving. In 1972 Jim returned with his family to Neillsville, where he worked for Neillsville Transport/Cenex Trucking for 28 years, retiring in 2000. In the early years of his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and traveling to visit his family. Jim’s friends were an important part of his life, and he enjoyed meeting them for coffee and shaking dice. Jim was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he enjoyed Monday’s volunteer work. Jim is survived by his children and their families, Dennis (Jan) Jensen of Beach, FL; Roger (Sara) of Roswell, GA; Jerrald, of Minneapolis, MN; Thomas (Angie), of Granite Falls, WA; Theresa (Marc) Arnold, of Zurich, Switzerland; and Sheila (Rick) Petras, of South Barrington, IL; sixteen grandchildren, Sarah, Michael, Miranda, Aleah Meier; Emily, John Ellen, Daniel Meier; Tom, Jeremy, Mallory, Molly, Miranda Meier; Jack, Alex and Joseph Petras. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Ronald (Kelly) Meier, of Rocky Ford, CO; Annette (Ken) Blackburn, of Janesville, WI; Judy (Jerry) Quicker, of Neillsville; and Raymond (Mary Jo) Meier, of Neillsville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert J. Meier; former wife, Irene Meier; a sister Betty Dux; and a sister-in-law, Lola Meier. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Neillsville, at 11 a.m. Reverend Timothy Biebert, will officiate. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon afterwards at the school. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Debit Reduction Fund.
