Dec. 2, 1997; Page 5A Laabs, Frederick William Jr. (July 18, 1922 - Dec. 1, 1997) FREDERICK LAABS Curtiss--Frederick William Laabs, 75, Abbotsfdord, died at 5:28 a.m., Dec. 1, 1997, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Curtiss with Rev. Lauren Ley officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in Curtiss. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Frederick Laabs was born July 18, 1922, in Curtiss, the son of Fred and Hattie (Glenzer) Laabs. He was a 1939 graduate of Owen High School. On May 13, 1943, Fred and VearDean Krueger were united in marriage at Colby. Fred was employed in the family cheese business in Curtiss and later worked as a cheese grader for Kraft Cheese Company in Milan, AMPI in Abbotsford and Morning Glory in Marshfield until his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served as president of the council in the early years of the church. He served several terms as president of the Village of Curtiss, and was a Boy Scout leader in Curtiss. He was an all-around sportsman who enjoyed bowling, was a Chicago Cubs fan and a Packer Backer. Fred will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years, VearDean; two sons, Steven (Annette) Laabs of Colby and Paul Laabs of Abbotsford; his daughter, Nancy (Darrell) Degenhardt of Abbotsford; son-in-law Charles Rosciam of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister Mernbelle Pease of Pharr, Texas; three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patricia Rosciam in 1986; and by six brothers, Herman, Glen, Bernard, Orville, Arthur and Harry Laabs. |
