Mueller, August (12 Jan. 1873 – 3 Oct. 1942)

August Mueller, a prominent business man of Colby, died at his home in Colby Saturday morning, October 3, at 4:20 A.M. at the age of 69 years, diabetes and a stroke being the cause of his departure. He had been ill for four years. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, October 7th, at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby, Rev. D. Grether, pastor of the First Evangelical and Reformed church of Colby, officiating. Internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Herman Wiedenhoeft, William Singstock, Herman Singstock, Fred Stecker, Fred Thieme and Otto Krueger.

Mr. Mueller was born in Sheboygan on January 12, 1873, and moved with his parents to a farm in the town of Colby in 1877. He was married in Wausau to Ida Beyer on April 6th, 1904, and they lived on a farm in the town of Hull. In 1911 they moved onto a farm at Pulpo, Mich. In 1912 they moved to Dorchester and operated a hotel until 1914 when they moved to Curtiss where they also conducted a hotel. In 1916 they moved to Thorp and operated a tavern a short time and then moved to Abbotsford and managed a hotel for two and one-half years. In 1919 they bought the present Colby Inn Restaurant and lived here ever since.

He is survived by his wife and two sons – Pvt. Lawrence Mueller of Fort Crook, Neb., and Walter Mueller of Colby. One son, Franklin, died on April 15, 1913, at Dorchester at the age of two years and five months.

The deceased was an industrious man of strong convictions, honest in all his dealings and always took a keen interest in civic events. He was a member of the Colby fire department, a man of generous impulses and acquired the hospitable ways of the pioneer. Everybody was welcomed at his restaurant and tavern whether they came to buy or just to visit with friends. This friendly spirit at his place of business won him many friends who are sorry to learn of his death.

Out of town people here for the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sterzinger, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Spearbecker and daughter, Jenny, Mrs. Fred Whiteman and Mrs. Frank Miller, all of Marshfield, William Beyer, Gusta Beyer, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Joyodic and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Reinhart, all of Wausau, Mrs. Rudolph Krueger of Oconomowoc, Mr. and Mrs. John Blumk of Withee, Miss Rose Miller of Ervine, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lutzo and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Carrson of Abbotsford, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kafernus of Whittlsey, Mr. and Mrs. William Sulky of Prentice and Mr. and Mrs. George Miller and son, Harold, of the town of Hull.
