Hardwick, Mr./Mrs. William (Golden – 21 Feb. 1943)

Miss Winnifred Hardwick of this city attended the Golden wedding of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Hardwick, which took place at their farm home, two miles south of Humbird on Sunday, Feb. 21, 1943.

Mr. and Mrs. Hardwick were the parents of four children, one daughter having died in infancy. Those living are: James, of Humbird; Clarence, Milwaukee and Mrs. Carl Grueb, Greenwood. There are 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom were present Sunday except one grandson, Wayland Hardwick, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Hardwick, who is serving in the U. S. Army at Drew Field, Tampa, Florida. About forty were present, including the immediate families and a few other relatives and close friends.

Mrs. Ed. Lanners, Chippewa Falls, a niece of the guests of honor, planned and made all arrangements for the table decorations. She also made aprons for the three granddaughters and two nieces who waited upon the table, and arranged gold and white bows for their hair. The dinner table was beautifully decorated in gold and white. A five-tier wedding cake, ornate with pink and white roses and gold leaves, formed the centerpiece.

Mr. and Mrs. Hardwick were united in marriage Feb. 21, 1893, in Blackhawk County, Fairbank, Iowa. It was a double wedding her younger sister, Miss Ellen Campbell, and Charles Goeller, being married in the same service, the couple acting as sponsors for each other. Both couples are still living, Mr. and Mrs. Goeller having remained residents of Fairbank throughout the years. The Hardwicks came to Jackson County in 1902, having made their home in that county every since. Mr. and Mrs. Hardwick still are very active and enjoy especially good health. They conduct their own farming operations, though on a smaller scale than in former years. They have been most delightful neighbors and friends and splendid citizens.

The lively group of grandchildren found a picture of their grandparents, which was taken at the wedding fifty years ago and then persuaded the couple to duplicate the pose for one of the golden wedding pictures. Fine pictures had also been taken of the couple in Neillsville on Saturday.

They were present with a number of lovely gifts.
