Rankel, Mathilda J. E. (Marriage – 2 Sept. 1944)

Miss Mathilda J. E. Rankel of Evanston, Ill., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Rankel of Colby, and Richard A. Hollman, son of Mr. Alvin Hollman of Colby, were united in marriage Saturday, September 2, 1944, at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Rev. L. J. Lang officiating at the double ring ceremony. Miss Irene Rankel was maid of honor and the bridesmaids were Mrs. Gus Overbeck of Chicago and Miss Helen Rankel of Denver, Colo. The groom was attended by G. W. Rankel of Colby as best man, Gus. Overbeck of Chicago and Henry Coates of Thorp. The bride was given in marriage by her father.

The bride was attired in a long white satin gown, leg o’mutton sleeves, sweetheart neckline, long train with inserts of Spanish lace and short train. Her veil with a headdress of illusion of pedals were set with orange blossoms. For something old she wore a gold locket which her mother wore at her wedding 31 years ago; for something borrowed, her sister’s lace handkerchief; for something blue, her veil was tied with a blue ribbon. Her shower bouquet consisted of white gladiolas and pink roses.

Miss Irene Rankel wore a frock of aqua blue malan with taffeta skirt and matching blusher veil. Mrs. Overbeck wore a frock of white taffeta bodice with malan skirt and matching blusher veil. Miss Helen Rankel wore a frock of white taffeta bodice with malan skirt and matching blusher veil. The bouquets of all three consisted of white and pink gladiolas and all three wore emerald bracelets, gifts of the bride.

The groom and his attendants wore tuxedo suits with aster boutonnieres.

A wedding reception was given at the home of the bride’s parents, the home being decorated with blue and white streamers and a large three-tiered wedding cake with a large wedding bell for the occasion. A wedding dance was given at Wiedenhoeft’s pavilion in the evening.

The newlyweds left on a wedding trip to Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota and will be at home on the groom’s farm at Colby after Sept. 10th.

The bride is a graduate of Colby High School, class of 1942. Since then, she has been employed at Evanston Coffee Room, Evanston, Ill.

Bergner of Sturgeon Bay, Miss Dorothy Hollman of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Coates of Thorp, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hein and family of Stratford, Mrs. Francis Kess of Stetsonville, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hanson and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Schueller and Mrs. Joe Allain and Margie of Unity, and Mrs. Anton Osterholdt and Evelyn of Athens.
