Preceded by three attendants in sapphire blue velvet and carrying violet bouquets, Miss Rose Gertrude Gallagher, New York City, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John J. Gallagher of Mellen and Stevens Point, Wis., approached the beautifully decorated white altar of Gesu church Saturday, Dec. 30th, at high noon to become the bride of Lt. (jg) John Karl Schemmer.

Among the guests witnessing the rite by Father George A. Schemmer, assisted by Father Richard H. Cahill, S. J., were the bridegroom’s parents, Dr. and Mrs. A. L. Schemmer, who had been married by Father Schemmer in Gesu church during World War I.

The bride’s period gown was of white pure silk damask of a camellia design. The bodice with heart-shaped neckline and long fitted sleeves was fashioned with a deep peplum at the back, the very full skirt ending in a train. Camellias in clusters over her ears held her fingertip veil. She carried an old fashioned nosegay of camellias and narcissus. Her brother in law, Paul G. Fredericks, Madison, gave her in marriage.

The maid of honor, Miss Frances Gallagher, Milwaukee, the bride’s sister, and the two bridesmaids, Misses Alice Schatzman, St. Louis, Mo., and Suzanne Bergerson, Duluth, Minn., wore sapphire blue velvet picture gowns, similar in design to that of the bride, with slim bodice, bouffant skirts, and bracelet length sleeves. Their tulle caps of sapphire blue were held at the back with matching velvet bows where the veils flared. They carried violets, little old-fashioned nosegays.

Dr. Schemmer was his son’s best man while David Van Wert Flynn and Dell Coleman, both of Chicago, were ushers.

For her son’s wedding, Mrs. Schemmer wore an exclusive Carnegie model in Hattie Carnegie gold, trimmed with beaded medalim. An Arctic blue ostrich hat and a corsage of pink camellias completed her ensemble.

A wedding breakfast and reception at the Surf followed the ceremony.

The couple will make their home temporarily in Chicago where the bridegroom is stationed.

Lt. Schemmer recently returned from a sixteen months tour of duty in the Pacific theater. He was graduated from the University of Notre Dame magna cum laude in 1939 and from Harvard Law School in 1941, where he was on the editorial staff of Harvard Law Review, after which he practiced law in New York City with one of the law firms. He is, at present, receiving training at the University of Chicago.

The bride is a graduate of the College of St. Catherine, St. Paul, Minn., and later did graduate work at St. Louis University. She was librarian at St. Louis University High School, St. Louis, and of Manhattanville College, an exclusive school for girls, New York City. She has organized libraries for the Pan American Airways and was recently on the editorial staff of Time, Inc. She is on leave of absence from her duties with Time, Inc.

Out of town guests included the bride’s sisters, Mrs. George Rennie Price, East Lansing, Michigan, Mrs. Paul Fredericks, Madison, and the bridegroom’s aunts, the Misses Catherine and Mary Schemmer, New Holstein, and Miss Josephine Schemmer, Chicago, and cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Goessling and daughter, Jeane, and son, Robert, Janesville, Mr. and Mrs. Dell Coleman, and son, Dean, Chicago.
