Engelking, Edna Anna (Marriage – 14 July 1945)

Miss Edna Anna Engelking, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Engelking of Abbotsford, and Corporal William Henry Berweger, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Berweger of Ashland, route 1, were united in marriage last Saturday morning in a ceremony performed by the Rev. M. G. Argeaux in St. Andrew’s Episcopal church at Ashland.

The bride was attired in a frock of white lace over taffeta, accented with a corsage of red roses. She wore a white hat and white accessories, and a necklace and bracelet of Mexican silver filigree, a gift of the bridegroom.

The matron of honor, Mrs. Walter Gustafson, Mason, cousin of the bride, was attired in lime green, and the bridesmaid, Miss Joy Alby, of Sanborn, wore a frock of aqua-blue. Both completed their attire with white hats and white accessories and wore corsages of white carnations.

Attendants for the bridegroom were the bride’s brother, Lt. Frederick L. Engelking, Boca Raton, Fla., and Theodore Anderson, Sanborn. The latter, who was in the South Pacific war theater for three and a half years, received his medical discharge July 1. He was a staff sergeant at the time.

The wedding breakfast was served at the Knight hotel in Ashland, followed by a reception given in Sanborn at the home of the bride’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson. A profusion of peonies and roses decorated the house and the church. Only the immediate families witnessed the church ceremony. In the evening, the event was celebrated at a dance at the Berweger hall at Sanborn.

The couple is spending a honeymoon on Lake Namakagon.

The bridegroom, who recently returned from three and a half years of service in the European theater of war, will report at Miami, Fla., July 26th, for reassignment.
