White, Josephine Ellen (Marriage – 13 Oct. 1945)

On Saturday morning, Oct. 13th, in the Catholic chapel of the University of Chicago, Miss Josephine Ellen White, Ppm. 3/C, became the bride of First Sgt. Norman Paul Firnstahl. Miss White is the daughter of Mrs. William Harpole of Chicago and Sgt. Firnstahl’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. I. M. Firnstahl of Colby. The Rev. Connerton performed the double ring ceremony before an altar decorated with white roses, candles and palms at either side. Witnesses were Miss Virginia Firnstahl, sister of the groom, and Warrant Officer Frank Dudlack of Chicago.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her brother, Arthur White, wore a beige wool street dress with brown accessories and carried a bouquet of white roses. Miss Firnstahl wore a light grey dress with black accessories and her bouquet consisted of yellow baby chrysanthemums. Music for the occasion was played by the chapel organist.

A breakfast was served the bridal couple and immediate relatives and friends at the Del Predo Hotel at Chicago after which the young couple left by plane on a week’s honeymoon in the eastern states.

The bride is a graduate of Monticello College at Godfrey, Ill., and was a student of the Chicago Art Institute. She was employed at the United Air Lines in Chicago until January, 1944, when she joined the WAVES. She has been stationed at the Naval Medical Center at Washington, D.C., where she was employed as secretary. She has just received an honorable discharge.

The groom attended St. Mary’s Catholic school in Colby and is a graduate of the Colby High School. He also attended St. Norbert’s school at DePere. He received his college education at St. John’s University at Collegeville, Minn., and at the University of Minnesota. He was inducted into the army in October, 1942, and has been stationed at the University of Chicago where he is now in the personnel department.
