Obit: Haavisto, Ronald Eugene #2 (1943 – 1945)
Surnames: Haavisto, Shieds, Brown, Pipkorn, Goetsch Source: Colby Phonograph (Colby, Clark County, Wis.) 08/09/1945 Haavisto, Ronald Eugene (17 Nov. 1943 – 3 Aug. 1945) Ronald Haavisto, 21 months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Elno Haavisto of the town of Green Grove, was drowned in a large kettle of water in the barnyard of his parents’ farm just before noon Friday. The child was seen playing at 11:30 and 20 minutes later his mother discovered the body in the kettle, which had been used as a water trough for calves. The boy’s father said the receptacle contained about 18 inches of water. Dr. G. G. Shieds of Abbotsford was called to the home and he called Coroner H. L. Brown, who pronounced the case accidental death. Ronald Eugene Haavisto was born at Owen on Nov. 17, 1943. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Carl, 15, and Delbert, 4, and by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Pipkorn, Spencer, route 1, and Mrs. Hilja Haavisto, Longwood township. Two sisters of the child died last winter. Funeral services were held at the St. Paul’s Lutheran church at Green Grove Monday afternoon, Rev. M. C. Goetsch officiating. |
