Milan - Apr. 18, 1946

The Milan Busy Bees 4-H Club met April 10 at the Milan school, with 20 members and four guests present. C. J. McAleavy gave a talk on how to conduct a meeting and how to get started on projects. The four principal projects are gardening, handicraft, clothing and dairying. Leslie Kohl was admitted to membership. Fred Blanke, Mrs. Anthony Vesely, Bernard Bunkelman and Oliver Wilson were visitors. Applications for membership in the club will be accepted until May 1st. The next meeting of the club will be held May 14th.

The Milan Community club met at the home of Mrs. Ferdinand Huhn Thursday afternoon. The meeting was called to order by the president Mrs. Elmer Bunkelmann, and several songs were sung. Mrs. Arnold Killien gave the secretary’s report and Mrs. Ferdinand Huhn, the treasurer’s report. A motion to continue the library during the summer months was carried. As the books on hand will soon be exchanged for another set, the president requested that all books now out be returned by May 1st so that all may be taken to Wausau. Literature on safety and care of cooking utensils were passed out to the members. Birthday songs were sung for the hostess and also for her daughter, Margaret, who celebrated their birthdays that day. At lunch, the women especially enjoyed the birthday cake which was decorated with frosting and lighted candles for this double occasion. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Rudy Haderlein. The librarian reported that on April 10th, 50 books were taken out. This shows that the people of this community are enjoying the service of this library.

Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Huhn entertained at cards Thursday evening in honor of the birthday anniversaries of Mrs. Huhn and daughter, Margaret. Those present were Charles Huhn and son, Neal and Franklin of Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Marion Brotherton and daughter, Iris, of Unity; Mr. and Mrs. William Krueger, Owen, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marquardt and daughter, Mary Lou, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kalepp, Melvin Krueger and family and Elmer Bunkelmann and family, Athens. High prizes were won by Mrs. Edward Kalepp and Fred Marquardt and low by Mrs. Melvin Krueger and Franklin Huhn. Lunch was served at midnight.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur G. Voight, Friday, a son.

Lt. Arlo Benzmann arrived at New York last Monday from Germany after being in the service four years. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Benzmann, drove to Camp McCoy Saturday to meet him.
