Curtiss (June 4, 1915)

The Curtiss baseball team played the Greenwood boys last Sunday and took a trimming 8 to 4. The Curtiss boys played good ball at times and also some very poor ball. Lack of practice was much in evidence. “Big Ben” Marquardt pitched shutout ball, holding Greenwood to four hits and striking out nine men, but errors behind him lost him his game. Reishus had his batting clothes on, collecting two singles and a home run. The boys are going to Stetsonville next Sunday and get revenge. They will get it too, if practice helps any.

Wm. Schoemacher’s large new barn was raised Monday.

Mrs. Marney Burns is visiting at the home of Mrs. Jake Lapp.

John Sturner is in the southern part of the state on a business trip.

J. P. Elwill, who has been visiting his son Will Elwill, left Monday morning for his home at Wadena, Minn.

Miss Hattie House is spending commencement week with school friends at Abbotsford.

Miss Georgia Brainer of Elwood, Indiana, who for the past year has been teaching school in North Dakota, is visiting at the home of her cousin, Will Elwill.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Dave Norline, Tuesday, May 18. Mr. Norline made a flying trip from St. Paul to visit his wife and the baby at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Virch, Mrs. Norline’s parents.

The misses Alma Neitzel, Amelia Scha*ema*, Hattie House, Clara Thompson, Agnes Rued, and Mrs. (unreadable), also Lawrence Neitzel, are among those who went from Curtiss Monday evening to take in the class play in Abbotsford.

Our School scored a victory at the contest at Longwood last week. Miss Alma Thompson won first place in spelling and Miss Edith Ostenson stood third in Arithmetic. There will be another contest at Greenwood, Friday, May 28, in which our girls and boys will take part.
