Nielsen, Anders P. (19 SEP 1865 - 2 MAY 1919)

Anders Peter Nielsen died at the hospital at Chippewa Falls on Friday, May 2, 1919, after an illness of but a few days. The cause was pronounced as heart trouble at the hospital. Mr. Nielsen was born at Sejling Sogn, Denmark, on Sept. 19, 1865, and had therefore reached the age of nearly fifty-four years. He served his apprenticeship at the blacksmith trade in Denmark and when about twenty-seven years of age immigrated to this country, working for a time in New Jersey and Chicago. In 1893, learning of a Danish settlement at Withee, Clark County, Wis., he came to that village and a short time later came to Thorp, where he has since made his home. For some time he operated a blacksmith shop here, but of late years he has been employed at his trade in lumber camps for the John S. Owen Lumber Co. He was an expert workman in his chosen profession and highly respected by his fellow workers in camp and friends in this village. As a child he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and believed in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man. He believed that the man who scatters flowers in the pathway of his fellowmen who lets into dark places of life the sunshine of human happiness, in following in the footsteps of his Master.

The body arrived here on Sunday noon and was taken to the Odd Fellows Hall, where services were conducted by Rev. George H. Crow, interment following in the Thorp Village Cemetery.

Deceased had no known relatives in this country except a niece who resides in San Francisco. He however kept in touch with home folks in Denmark and never missed bestowing generously from his income upon them at Christmas time. He was a member of the local Modern Woodman Lodge, carrying $2000 insurance and also a $1000 policy in the Northwestern Life.
