Obit: Irish, Elzina S. (1850 - 1920)
Surnames: SMITH IRISH Source: THORP COURIER (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) 03/04/1920 Irish, Elzina S. (14 JUN 1850 - 25 FEB 1920) Elzina Schoolcraft Smith was born at Parrisville, St. Lawrence Co., N.Y, June 14, 1850. She was married to Harley Irish at Wrightsville, Wis., Feb. 28, 1870, to whom were born four sons and three daughters, Effie, George, Leon, Guy, Julia, Henry and Jennie, all but two of who are living. This family was among the early pioneers of this village (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.), where the death of the father occurred Jan. 22, 1901. Mrs. Irish has been a familiar figure in our community for a number of years and leaves monuments to her memory, created by the labor of her hands, in the lives of her friends and neighbors. None could be more worthy of commendations for industry and untiring efforts and devotion in keeping her family together, and after all the noble of earth are those who face the world with a smile and do their duty as they see it, diligently and uncomplainingly. Her last illness, extending over a period of several weeks, was a losing fight with death due very largely to advancing years and her spirit departed Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1920, leaving to mourn her departure, two sons, Leon and Henry, and three daughters, before mentioned, besides numerous other friends and relatives. The funeral took place on Saturday last from the M. E. Church, Rev. G. A. Wadding officiating, interment following in the Thorp Village Cemetery.
