Obit: Elmendorf, Bernard
Bernard Elmendorf Bernard Duwain (Ben) Elmendorf, 75, died on Saturday, March 29, 2003, in Pahala, Hawaii. He was born November 11, 1927, at Bayard, NE. He was the son of Bernard and Frances (Kile) Elmendorf and spent his early childhood and schooldays in Butler, WI. He moved with his family from the thorp area to the state of Washington in 1937. He served in the Merchant Marines in the S. Pacific in World War II. He was an operating engineer most of his adult life in the state of Washington. After moving to Hawaii he had a fishing charter boat that he operated for a few years. Then he took to doing missionary work in South America. His parents, Bernard and Frances Elmendorf and three brothers; Thorval, John Jay and Mervil Elemendorf, his sister Jane McCombs, preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife Linda at Pahala, Hawaii (P.O. Box 621, zip 96777) and son Bernard Elemendorf and daughter, Frances, in the Spokane area; and grandchildren, also two brothers Francis (Hugo) of Everett, WA and Dan Elmendorf of Sedro Woolley, WA. Bernard was the grandson of early Thorp settlers, J. D. and Eliza (Alger) Elemendorf and also early settlers in the town of Butler, John and Sarah Moore Kile. The Thorp Courier, April 9, 2003
