100 Years Ago, Jan. 03, 1903 Postmaster Bridgman has received notice that roads traveled by rural mail carriers must be kept open so that the service can be performed regularly and punctually.

70 Years Ago, Dec. 30, 1932 The Dominion, fast limited train on the Soo Line, will make its lst trip tomorrow, for the present. It is expected the train will be restored May 1, 1933.

The epidemic of Influenza that has prevailed in Stanley the past few days is said to be on the wane and conditions are improving. Many severe cases are reported and a majority of the families in the city have been afflicted.

Andrew Chura said it costs about $50 per acre to brush and stump an acre of land. Add a few dollars more for plowing, seed and the first crop would possibly bring $25. Maybe the assessor would raise the valuation on the improvement, with higher taxes to pay. Farming, he insisted, is a funny game.

60 Years Ago, Jan. 01, 1943 A memorial in Soo Line Park at present lists the name of 327 men in the armed forces from Stanley and vicinity, was sponsored by American legion Post 112 and the Stanley Chamber of Commerce. The painting and design was done by Bert Robinson.

40 Years Ago, Jan. 03, 1963 Arland Wald has moved to the Andrew Spaeth farm, having sold his store at Edson Center to Gerald Herrick, who takes possession of the store this week. Wyman Wilbur moved from the Andrew Spaeth farm to the Gerald Herrick farm.

25 Years Ago, Dec. 29, 1977 Brad Marthaler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eigene Marthaler of Boyd, won the state award in Category One for the Knights of Columbus Poster contest. There were 8,500 posters entered this year throughout the state, which is a record.
