70 Years Ago, Nov. 18, 1932 Harry, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wald, has received from the U.S. government a gold star decoration in recognition of "exceptional gallantry" while in the U.S. military service in France. "For exceptional bravery and endurance near Juvigny on Aug. 30 to Sept. 1, 1918, PFC Harry Wald, while acting as a liasion agent, carried important messages through heavy shellfire between the company and battalion headquarters." Again at Romagne on Oct. 14, "under shell and machine gun fire, as a runner he carried messages from his commander of the 119th Machine Gun Battalion to platoons whose commissioned officers had been wounded or killed, he showed exceptional gallantry till wounded and evacuated." The above quotations are from orders issued by commanders of the division in which he served.

60 Years Ago, Nov. 20, 1942 Mrs. Beryl Wood, who comes here from Luck, where she operated a beauty shop for the past year, has purchased the Ideal Beauty Shop in the post office building.

40 Years Ago, Nov. 22, 1962 Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Patten have purchased the Louis Pagel tavern in Stanley and will move and take possession of their new place this week,

Mr. and Mrs. Henry LaMarche will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 25 with an open house at their home.

25 Years Ago, Nov. 17, 1977 Work on the new Holy Family Parish Church is progressing. The outside is nearing completion, with a large amount of landscaping already done. Cement floors are being poured and other work is being taken care of on the inside.
