Diercks, 76, Greenwood, died on Friday, April 25, 2003, at the Neillsville Memorial Home. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, April 29, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Christie. The Rev. Kevin Hanke officiated. Burial was in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jody Duda, Brian Duda, Tom Djubenski, Mark Kolecheck, Jamie Cliver and Travis Kostick. Doris Evelyn Henchen was born on Aug. 5, 1926, in Globe, to Clarence and Agnes (nee Minsaas) Henchen. She was raised on the family farm and educated in the Globe school. She worked on the farm after completing her education. She married Donald Duda on June 16, 1947. They later divorced. She worked as a bartender at Drenick’s Bar north of Neillsville for several years. She married Victor “Shorty” Diercks on Sept. 23, 1963, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenwood. She worked as the head cook at the Greenwood American Legion for many years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenwood, where she was active until its closing. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Christie. She was a longtime member of the Greenwood American Legion Auxiliary. She was named the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce’s citizen of the year in 1985. Her interests included spending time with her family, cooking and playing bingo. Survivors include her husband, Victor Diercks, Greenwood; three children, Shirley (Roger) Kostick, Thorp, Larry (Lynn) Duda, Loyal, and Rick Diercks, Greenwood; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Clarabelle Djubenski, Greenwood; and three brothers, Bob (Evelyn) Henchen, Greenwood, Clarence (Ethel) Henchen, Marshfield, and Ronald (Joanne) Henchen, Eau Claire. Preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Robert, in 1994; and two brothers, Delmond Henchen and Arthur Henchen. Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
