Pope, Joyce Rae (Marriage – 5 Sept. 1947)

Traditional heavy white slipper satin was worn by Miss Joyce Rae Pope, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Pope of Stetsonville, when she became the bride of Harold Westberg, of Milwaukee, formerly of Colby, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schwantes of Colby, on Sept. 5th, at a 3 o’clock ceremony at the Tabor Manse by Rev. R. J. Kolwitz at the Tabor Ev. and Reformed church of Milwaukee.

The bride wore a long veil trimmed with braid to match her headpiece. Her satin gown had a sweetheart neckline with a sunburst effect from neckline of pleats and pearls, leg-o-mutton sleeves, tight fitting torso bodice and a long train. She also wore a set of pearl ear-rings, a gift from her mother.

Miss Ledo Jean John of Marshfield, maid of honor, wore a white taffeta gown. Miss Marie Notbohm, Milwaukee, bridesmaid, wore pink net over taffeta, and the junior bridesmaid, Miss Mary Lou Brecke, Stetsonville, wore a sheer blue Vel-v-ray gown. All had sweetheart necklines to match the bride’s, and carried a wrist corsage of rose colored tea roses on a lace doily to match the bride’s bouquet which consisted of white asters, snapdragons and tea roses. All had ribbons to match their gowns.

The attendants wore colored net headdresses to match their gowns.

The groom’s only attendant was Al Bauer of Milwaukee. The groom wore a brown green plaid suit and the bride’s mother wore a beige suit with black accessories and a small corsage of tea roses.

After the ceremony the bridal party had their pictures taken and at 6 o’clock a wedding dinner was served to them and immediate relatives at the Du Laven’s café.

In the evening at 8:30 a reception was held at the August Notbohm home, a relative of the bride, to about 30 relatives and friends, including the Rev. and Mrs. R. J. Kolwitz. The Kolwitz’s were formerly from Medford, Rev. Kolwitz having served in the Ev. Parish at Medford and Dorchester a few years ago.

The bride was formerly employed in Milwaukee but had been home the past several months and the groom was employed there since spring, being employed with construction work and plans on doing the same line of work in his new home in the state of Oregon where they left for on Saturday by car.

Out of town guests included the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Pope, Mary Lou Brecke, Stetsonville, Leda Jean John, Marshfield, Mrs. Emma Roder, Abbotsford, the bride’s grandmother, and Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Roder, Iona and Lorrain, uncle of the bride of Caledonia, Wis.
