Bohman, Alice R. (Marriage – 11 Oct. 1947)

Miss Alice R. Bohman, daughter of Joseph Bohman, Sr., of Stratford and Brice H. Bender, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bender of Colby, were united in marriage at St. Joseph’s Catholic church at Stratford Saturday, Oct. 11, at 10 a.m., Rev. Anthony Lochler reading the marriage ceremony. Mrs. Harvey Bohman of Stratford, sister in law of the bride, was matron of honor and the bridesmaids were Miss Betty Jean Bender, sister of the groom, Mrs. Felix Bohman of Stratford, sister in law of the bride, and Mrs. Edward Kralcik of Wausau, cousin of the bride. The groom was attended by Harvey Bohman, brother of the bride, as best man and Melvin Bender of Dorchester, a cousin of the groom, Felix Bohman of Stratford, brother of the bride, and Edward Kralcik of Wausau served as groomsmen. All of the groom’s attendants wore neckties, gifts of the groom. Louis Bohman, and Anton Bohman, brothers of the bride, ushered. Phyllis Bohman, a niece of the bride, was flower bearer; Allen Bohman was ring bearer, and Audrey Bohman, another niece of the bride, was miniature bride.

The bride was attired in a gown of heavy ivory satin featured with a full gathered skirt ending in a long train. The high, round neckline had a nylon yoke being gathered with appliquéd flowers edged with satin braid. This extended around the back. The long blusher veil extended beyond the train of the dress. It was caught to a beaded crown headdress and was edged with imported Belgium lace. Lace insets of scroll effect trimmed the bottom of the veil. The bride carried out the traditional something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. The bride’s gift from the groom was a rhinestone necklace. Her bouquet consisted of flesh tinted roses and mums. The bride was given in marriage by her father.

Fall colors were seen in the bridal party. The matron of honor wore a gold taffeta formal designed with bateau neckline, Bertha collar coming to a point in the back, short puffed sleeves, full gathered skirt with a bustle in the back. She wore a large picture hat and gauntlets to match. Miss Bender wore a dress of aqua color, Mrs. Felix Bohman a dress of dusty pink and Mrs. Kralcik a dress of orchid pink, all styled the same as the matron of honor’s. All attendants wore choker style necklaces with small pearls edged with gold heads on each side as gifts from the bride. All the bridesmaids wore picture hats and gauntlets to match their dresses. All had pink roses tied with ribbons to match their dresses.

The flower girl wore a dress of deep blue shade and was styled similar to that of the bridesmaids. She wore a large blue ribbon in her hair and carried a basket of mixed flowers. She wore a heart-shaped locket and bracelet, a gift of the bride. The ring bearer, a nephew of the bride, carried the rings on a diamond-shaped satin pillow. The miniature bride wore a white satin dress similar to that of the bride, a fingertip blusher veil with a high crown lace headdress. She wore a gold trim cross necklace and bracelet, a gift of the bride. The groom’s mother wore a two-piece brown dress with braid and sequin trimming. The skirt was draped to one side. Her accessories were of brown. Her corsage consisted of roses.

A reception was given at the home of the bride’s father. The home was decorated with gold, orchid, pink, aqua, blue and white streamers. A large three-tiered wedding cake centered the bride’s table. Approximately 200 people attended the dinner and supper. In the evening, a dance was given at the Trianon ball room. Guests from Colby, Stratford, Milwaukee, Green Lake, Ripon, Unity, Zumbrota, Minn., Minneapolis, Oshkosh, Abbotsford, Wausau, Fenwood, Black River Falls, Beaver Dam. Richland Center, Marshfield and Stratford were present.

The couple left on a wedding trip to the Black Hills and will be at home after October 22nd at Colby where the groom operates his father’s farm.
