Abel, Martha (17 Apr. 1877 – 24 Oct. 1972)

Martha Abel, 95, a resident at the Smith Nursing Home in Park Falls, passed away at the Park Falls Memorial Hospital on Tuesday of last week following a lingering illness. Funeral services were held on Friday at the Peace Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Norman Spomer officiating. Internment was made at Nola Cemetery. The remains lay in state at the Novitzke Funeral Home after 7:00 p.m. Thursday until transfer to the church to lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of services.

Martha Ewert was born on April 17, 1877 at Unity, Wis., where she spent her early life. She was married to Ed Schmoll, who passed away in 1939, and was married to William Abel on April 10, 1946. She was a member of the Women’s Guild.

Surviving are a brother, Robert Ewert of Bemidji, Minn., two step-sons, Arthur of Park Falls and Otto of Beloit; two stepdaughters, Mrs. George Lenz of Beloit and Mrs. Frank Gropp of Seattle, Washington; fifteen grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
