Grambort, Fred (1 Aug. 1865 – 8 June 1952)

Fred Grambort died Sunday morning at the age of 86 years at the Clark county hospital where he had been a patient for nearly two years. Mr. Grambort underwent an operation nearly three years ago at the Marshfield hospital from which he never recovered, although the best of medical attention and care were provided. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Zion Lutheran church, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Five sons and Edwin Pruessner, a nephew, were pall bearers. Flowers were in charge of Hazel Fahrenbach, Evelyn Fricke, Emma Meske, Nora Witte, Linda Miller and Margaret Weideman.

Mr. Grambort was born on Aug. 1, 1865, in Sheboygan county. He was married to Bertha Kobs on Nov. 26, 1890, at Colby. For a number of years they lived on a farm at Colby and then moved to the city of Colby where he was a livestock dealer. He soon built a fine reputation for honest and square dealing and his business grew to a large and profitable one. In December, 1945, he sold his business to a newly organized firm, Grambort & Christensen of Abbotsford, and retired.

Surviving are five daughters, Miss Malent Grambort of Chicago, Mrs. E. W. (Antonia) Doyle of Chicago, Mrs. A. F. (Alberta) Lidman of Chicago, Miss Edna Grambort of San Francisco, Calif., Mrs. Lester (Dorice) Guetschow of Stevens Point; six sons, Hubert of Ashland, Walter of Abbotsford, Edwin of Colby, Gilbert of Abbotsford, Lt. Col. Everett of Japan, Fred of Chicago; 21 grand children and one great grand child.

His wife, five sisters and two infant children preceded him in death.

All the children except Everett, who could not get here in time from Japan, and Mrs. Lidman, who could not come on account of illness, were here for the funeral.

Mr. Grambort, the father of a large and gifted family, some of whom now have “silver threads,” will long be remembered, especially by the older people of this community, as a kindly gentleman of a congenial and honest disposition who always endeavored to perform his various duties in life to the best of his ability.
