Johnson, Eric J. (20 Jan. 1869 – 23 Oct. 1952)

Eric J. Johnson of Unity died last Thursday morning at the Marshfield hospital at the age of 83 years after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at the Trinity Lutheran church in Unity Monday afternoon, Rev. C. Vander Stoep officiating, and internment was made in the parish cemetery.

Johnson was born on January 20, 1869, in Melrud, Sweden, and, at the age of 17 years, he came to the United States and settled in Minnesota where he lived for three years and then moved to Phillips where he married Miss Bertha Wieland on February 17, 1893. They settled on a farm west of Unity in 1894 and stayed there until 1944 when they moved to Unity. For the past three years, they lived with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Edblom. Mr. Johnson served on the Trinity Lutheran church and village boards.

Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Alma) Edblom of Unity, Mrs. Carl (Esther) Johnson of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Beda Henry of Minneapolis and Mrs. Victor (Mildred) Dallman of Colby; two sons, Milton of Detroit and Leonard of Owen; two brothers, Carl O. Johnson of Stetsonville and Gust Johnson of New York; one sister, Mrs. Anna Dahlin of Sweden; seven grand-children and four great grand-children. One sister and one brother preceded him in death.
