"Charlie" Ihlefeld, 84, of Spencer, died Jan. 5, 2008, at Saint Joseph's Hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home in Marshfield and from 11 a.m. until time of services Thursday in Davenport, Iowa. * * * Source: Marshfield News Herald (Marshfield, Wood County, Wis.) Tuesday, January 8, 2008 Carl H. Ihlefeld SPENCER -- Carl H. "Charlie" Ihlefeld, 84, of N7957 County Road Y, Spencer, died on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home, Marshfield, where a prayer service will begin at 6:30 p.m. A visitation will also be held from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. Burial and military rites will take place in the National Cemetery Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Ill. Charlie was born on June 6, 1923, in Walcott, Iowa, to William and Louise (Schmidt) Ihlefeld. He attended schools in Scott County, Iowa,. He was a decorated veteran of the United States Army Infantry serving during World War II in the invasion and Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and numerous other medals of honor. He married Marilyn J. Frerkes on Dec. 8, 1951, in Davenport, Iowa. After his honorable discharge from the military, he farmed in Scott County, Iowa, for five years. He and his wife then moved to the town of Sherman (Clark County) where they farmed and resided for 50 years until the present time. Charlie was a member of the American Legion Post in Loyal, a 4-H leader for 25 years, served as treasurer for the town of Sherman, and was a member of the Farmers Home Administration Board for a number of years. The Ihlefeld's had six foster children, including Craig Eirich. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, numerous nieces and nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law and many dear friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Leona Thomsen; and three brothers, George, Harold and Elmer Ihlefeld. Memorials may be designated to the Highground Memorial, Neillsville, or to a mission fund for the Rev. Richard Pankratz. Condolences may be sent online to www.rembsfh.com. |
