Groneveldt, Arnold (14 Mar. 1931 – 5 Aug. 1953)

Funeral services for Pfc. Arnold Groneveldt were conducted at the Unity Methodist church Saturday afternoon, Rev. Harvey Schall officiating. Colby Veterans of Foreign Wars conducted military rites at the grave. Pall bearers were Rudy Anderson, Everett Capes, Donald Larson, Marvin Carlson, Ray Binning and Forest Johnson. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Rudy Anderson, Mrs. Everett Capes, Mrs. Donald Larson, Mrs. Marvin Carlson, Mrs. Ray Binning, Mrs. Forest Johnson, Miss Agnes Noll and Mrs. Tom Loughead.

Pfc. Groneveldt was killed by flying shrapnel when a fellow soldier stepped on a tank mine in Korea on August 5th. Master Sgt. Herbert E. Humphries of Oakland, Calif., accompanied the body here as a military escort.

Arnold Groneveldt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Groneveldt, was born in Unity on March 14, 1931, and moved to Chicago with his parents when he was seven years old. He spent many week-ends here with relatives and was well known to Unity people. He entered the army on May 12, 1952, and spent a week at Fort Sheridan and a week at Camp Chaffee, Ark., going from there to Fort Sill, Okla., for further training. He left Fort Sill on November 17, 1952, for overseas service in Korea with the 235th Headquarters Battery Field Artillery Observation Battalion.

Surviving him are his parents and three brothers, Vernis of Chicago and Milton and Arthur of Los Angeles.
