Podevels, Marjorie M. (Marriage – 28 Aug. 1954)

Miss Marjorie M. Podevels, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene C. Podevels of Colby, and Cpl. Orville W. Manecke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Manecke of Stratford, were united in marriage in the Peace Lutheran church in the town of Frankfort Saturday afternoon, Rev. J. H. Kolberg officiating at the rites.

The bride’s gown of Chantilly lace and nylon tulle over satin closed in back with small lace buttons. The molded lace bodice had a sheer yoke with floral appliqués of lace trimmed with pearls and sequins. Lace peplum insets detailed the bouffant skirt which flowed into a court-length train. A wide panel of the matching lace was repeated in the center of the train. Seed pearls outlined the floral pattern on the small carved satin tiara which secured her finger-tip lace-edged veil of silk illusion.

Red roses and white mums and carnations were combined in her horseshoe bouquet.

Identically styled formals of lace and nylon net over taffeta were worn by the bridal aides – Miss Marion Schultz of Spencer, a cousin of the bride, as maid of honor in a shrimp-colored frock, and Miss Allene Kipp of Stratford, a cousin of the bride, and Mrs. Bernard Dahlke of Colby, a sister of the bride, as bridesmaids in wedgewood blue. The skirts of the gowns were styled with deep drop lace peplums. Circular capes of lace finished with mandarin collars were worn over the gowns’ molded and strapless bodices.

Sprays of baby mums to match the color of their gowns were worn in the attendants’ hair. Their half-moon bouquets consisted of carnations and mums to match the shade of their gowns interspersed with white gladioli.

Henry Manecke of Stratford, a brother of the groom, served as best man and LaVern Podevels of Colby, a brother of the bride, and Bernard Dahlke of Colby were groomsmen.

Both mothers were attired in navy blue gowns accented with corsages of red roses and white carnations.

A reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents where 225 guests were served a buffet supper.

Following a honeymoon in the southern states, the bride will resume her work at the Wausau Public Library and the groom will return to Ft. Knox, Ky., where he is serving in the U.S. army. Manecke is a graduate of Stratford High School and his bride is a graduate of Colby High School.
