Krueger, William F. (? – 25 July 1954)

William F. Krueger, a retired Wausau business man and a former operator of a filling station at Abbotsford, was fatally injured in an automobile collision in Lincoln county, southeast of Merrill, Sunday morning at about 9:20 o’clock. Krueger was killed almost instantly.

Injured in the crash were his wife, Christine, age 63, fractured ribs and right arm; his son, William, Jr., of Wausau, fractured hip and ribs; William Jr.’s wife, Lillian, age 37, fractured ribs, and Virgil Schneider, of Barrien Springs, Mich., severe bruises. All were taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Merrill. The Kruegers in the hospital are all reported in good condition.

The accident occurred when a car driven by William, Jr., going north on a town road, and a car driven by Schneider, going east on a town road, collided.

The accident happened near the Deer Run Cheese Factory. It is located on a cut-off used by many residents going from County Trunk to Highway 64 on their way to Highway 17. The two Krueger families were headed toward Pelican Lake where they have a summer home.

Alfred Giese, Lincoln county undersheriff, who investigated the accident, said there would be no inquest.

The body was taken to the Helke Funeral Home in Wausau.

William, Jr., is an only child.

Up to Sunday, Lincoln county had no traffic fatalities this year. Krueger’s was the first.
