Schnabel, Lillian Vera-Jane (Marriage – 16 Apr. 1955)

Miss Lillian Vera-Jane Schnabel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Schnabel of Unity, Route 1, and Ronald Arthur Schmidt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schmidt of Colby, Route 2, exchanged marriage vows at the First Evangelical and Reformed church in Colby last Saturday in a 12 noon ceremony, Rev. V. O. Grosshuesch officiating. The bride was given in marriage by her father.

During the ceremony, Marvin Schnabel, a brother of the bride, sang, “O Perfect Love,” “The Lord is My Shepherd” and “God Will Take Care of You” to the accompaniment of Miss Rena Bauer.

The bride’s gown featured a lace over satin bodice with mandarin collar, and sleeves coming to points over the wrists. The satin skirt was overlaid with lace and concluded in a long train. Her bouquet was fashioned of red roses and stephanotis. Her lace-edged veil was attached to a Juliet cap.

Mrs. William Helmke of Stratford, was her sister’s matron of honor wearing a blue jacket over a matching strapless gown of net over taffeta, with lace inserts in the skirt. She carried an arrangement of red roses and yellow puff.

Misses Marlene and Luella Schnabel of Wausau, cousins of the bride, were attired identically in yellow gowns styled like the matron of honor’s and carried pink roses and blue puffs.

Neal Schmidt of Colby, served as his brother’s best man, while Marvin and Donald Schnabel of Unity, brothers of the bride, were groomsmen. Virgil Seefeld of Spencer, cousin of the groom, and William Helmke of Stratford, brother-in-law of the bride, performed the duties of ushers.

In a white gown of net over taffeta and carrying red roses, Jeanne Helmke of Stratford, niece of the bride, was flower girl, accompanied down the aisle by ringbearer Jerry Martin of Riplinger, cousin of the groom.

Mrs. Schnabel viewed her daughter’s wedding wearing a charcoal gray and pink print with white accessories, while the groom’s mother wore navy blue accented with white. Her accessories were also white, and both mothers wore corsages of small pink rosebuds.

Before leaving on a honeymoon in the southern part of the state, the newlyweds were feted at a reception at the Cherokee hall which was followed by a supper in the parish hall.

The bride, a graduate of the Stratford High School, is employed by the Danielson Dry Cleaners at Abbotsford. The groom, a graduate of Colby High School, is an employee of the Marathon Electric Cooperative in addition to operating a truck line of his own.

Guests were from Chicago, Ill., Milwaukee, West Allis, Madison, Appleton, Oregon, Brooklyn, Wausau, Stratford, Marshfield, Unity, Spencer, Riplinger, Curtiss, Owen and Colby.
