Singstock, Mr./Mrs. Herman (50th Anniv. – 8 May 1955)

Friends and relatives attended open house at Green Grove Sunday afternoon, May 8, to celebrate the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Singstock. For the occasion Mrs. Singstock was presented with a corsage of white carnations by her grand children.

The former Lena Hess and Herman Singstock were married 50 years ago on May 10, 1905, at Zion Lutheran church, Colby, Wisconsin, attended by Mrs. George Riel, Otto Dins and Mr. and Mrs. William Tesmer. Mrs. Riel is the only surviving attendant and was present at the celebration Sunday. The five children born to the couple are Arnold and Harold of Oshkosh, Oscar of Riplinger, Milbert of Colby, and Caroline of Madison. Their family also includes 10 grand children and five great grandchildren.

Mrs. Singstock, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hess, was born in 1886 in Waukesha county. She moved with her parents to a farm in the town of Colby in 1892.

Mr. Singstock was born in Waupaca county, near Reedsfield, in 1881. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Singstock, moved to the town of Colby in 1902.

After their marriage, the couple engaged in farming in the town of Colby until nine years ago when they moved to a farm house in the town of Green Grove. Mr. Singstock has been employed as fieldman for the Owen Canning Co. for the past 12 years. He has held various public offices as a member of the town board and school board and held church offices for 25 years in St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Green Grove, where both are members. Mrs. Singstock is also a member of the Ladies’ Aid.

A special prayer for the couple was offered by the Reverend August Saremba at the morning service at St. Paul’s church, after which a family dinner was served in the church dining hall. The table featured floral centerpieces and a golden wedding cake.

The honored couple was showered with gifts and tokens of the occasion and guests attended from Racine, Oshkosh, Milwaukee, Madison, Merrill, Pittsville, Marshfield, Colby, Curtiss, Greenwood, Owen, Spencer and Unity.
