Kuentz, Emilie (29 Apr. 1862 – 8 Apr. 1955)

Mrs. Adam Kuentz of Colby died at the Havenet Nursing Home in Owen at 8:15 o’clock Friday night at the age of 92 years of old age complications. She had been in poor health for several years. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Zion Lutheran church in Colby, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery.

Woodrow Tesmer sang “Beneath The Cross of Jesus” and “Abide With Me,” accompanied by Mrs. Tesmer. Mrs. L. Priem served as organist. Pall bearers were Walter Wiersig, Melbert Singstock, Fred Lenk, Howard Crossgrove, Louis Schulz and H. W. Reeves.

Mrs. Kuentz, the former Emilie Hildebrandt, was born on April 29, 1862, in Prussia, Germany. In 1872, she came to the United States with her parents and settled in Calvary, Fond du Lac county.

She married Adam Kuentz in Ashland on July 1, 1892. The couple came to Colby after their marriage and lived here since. They were engaged in the hardware business here. Mr. Kuentz died on November 14, 1942.

Mrs. Kuentz was a member of the Lutheran Sewing Society and a charter member of the Ladies’ Aid Society of which she was secretary for 35 years. Mrs. Kuentz will be remembered by many as a good Christian who always endeavored to perform her duties to the best of her ability, and being of a friendly and kindly disposition, was well-liked by all who knew her.

Surviving are a son, Herbert D. Kuentz of Madison; a daughter, Mrs. Fred (Ella) Schwierske of Colby; a grand son, Frederick H. Schwierske, now teaching at Mount Horeb, and two great grand children, Rebecca and Fred C. Schwierske.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Kuentz of Madison, Fred H. Schwierske of Mount Horeb, A. L. Hildebrandt of Chicago, F. A. Wopat, Mrs. James Hildebrandt and children, James. Jr., and Susan and Miss Sandra Behrschmidt of Chicago, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Turner of Phillips.
