Coates, Irene (20 AUG 1942)

Miss Irene Coates, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Coates of the town of Reseburg (Clark Co., Wis.), and Frederick Smitke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smitke of Thorp Township, were married Thursday morning, Aug. 20, 1942. The eight o’clock morning ceremony was performed at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church by the rev. A.M. Muckerheide.

The bride wore a high necked gown of white marquisette with long sleeves, long tai and veil held by a crown of lilies of the valley. Her bouquet was of white roses, carnations and baby’s breath. She wore a cross, a gift of the groom, around her neck.

Marge Badzinski, sister of the bride, attended her, attired in a gown of shell pink marquisette with a blusher to match.

Best man was George Badzinski. He and the groom wore tuxedos and white boutonnieres.

Other attending couples were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Matousek, and Shirlee Stein, cousin of the bride and Henry Coates, brother of the bride. Mrs. Matousek and Miss Stein wore gowns of baby blue marquisette with blushers to match. They carried bouquets of roses, baby’s breath and carnations. Their escorts were attired in tuxedos with white boutonnières.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents, where a wedding dinenr and supper was served. About 50 gusts attended. A wedding dance and shower were given at the American Legion Hall in the evening.

Present from away for the wedding were: Mrs. Joe Stein, Mrs. Harry Stein and Shirlee, of Milwaukee, Mrs. Delmar Smith and children, Mrs. George Yoder of Gilman, Mr. and Mrs. George Badzinski, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bymer of Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Matousek of Neillsville, Mrs. Elmer Dodmead of Eau Claire, Mrs. Kenneth Miller of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Floy Colby of Strom and Mrs. Binnie Nelson and Kenneth of Osseo.
