Heglund, Joyce Elayne (Marriage – 30 July 1949)

Miss Joyce Elayne Heglund, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Arthur Heglund, 714 6th Ave. W., Ashland, became the bride of Arnold Rannow, of Colby, Wisconsin, on Saturday evening, July 30th, at 8 o’clock at the Nidarous Lutheran church. Candlelight and summer flowers enhanced the setting for the double-ring ceremony, with Dr. N. A. Nelson reading the vows. Traditional wedding music was played by Miss Helene Yderstad at the organ. Harry Larson sang beautiful renditions of “Because” and “The Lord’s Prayer.”

The bride’s gown of ice-blue slipper satin, created by her mother, was fashioned with a formal bouffant skirt. The long-sleeved bodice, with bateau neckline, formed a tunic effect, flowing into a graceful train. Her finger-tip veil of ice-blue nylon fell from a braided ice-blue headband. A rhinestone necklace, a gift from the groom, was her only jewelry. She carried a white Bible, with a white orchid.

Miss Dorothy Penn, a close friend of the bride, was maid-of-honor, wearing a yellow taffeta gown, similar to the bridal gown in design. The flowers in her cascade bouquet and in her hair were pale pink gladioli. She wore a gold cross, the bride’s gift.

Four-year-old Maureen Hutt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hutt, of Abbotsford, friends of the bride and groom, served as flower girl, attired in yellow taffeta edged in white lace. She carried a white basket filled with sweet peas in pastel shades. The gold locket which she wore was a gift from the bride.

Miss Joan Nemec, cousin of the bride, and Miss Mavis Boettcher, cousin of the groom, lighted the tall tapers in the candelabra and at the windows before the ceremony. Miss Nemec’s formal dress was in an aqua shade and Miss Boettcher’s was blue.

Attending his brother as best man was Howard Rannow. The host of friends and relatives present were ushered by Kenneth and James Heglund, cousins of the bride. They all wore boutonnieres of white carnations.

Mrs. Heglund, mother of the bride, wore a dress of soft blue, with navy blue accessories, and a corsage of red roses. A brown dress, with tan and brown accessories and a corsage of yellow roses was worn by the groom’s mother, Mrs. Rannow.

A reception was held at the Menard Hotel from 9 o’clock until 11. A beautiful three-tiered wedding cake graced the table and was served by Miss Alyce Jean Heglund, of Milwaukee, and Miss Audrey Gries, of Colby. Miss Hazel Baumgartner of Colby, an aunt of the groom, and Mrs. Everett Heglund, aunt of the bride, poured.

Leaving for their wedding trip in Wisconsin and Minnesota, the bride wore as her going away costume a green gabardine suit with brown accessories and a white orchid corsage. On their return, they will be at home to friends in their new home at Colby.

Mrs. Rannow attended the public schools in Ashland, and majored in Speech and English at Northland college and the University of Wisconsin. She has taught for the past four years in the Colby high school and will teach here again during the coming school year. Mr. Rannow attended Colby schools and has his own carpenter and cabinet-making shop in Colby.
