Mielke, Alvina I. (Marriage – 29 Aug. 1949)

William Giese, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Giese of Edgar, route 1, and Alvina I. Mielke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Mielke of Colby, route 1, were united in marriage Monday, August 29th, at 1:30 p.m. at Peace Lutheran church in the town of Frankfort, Rev. Ernest Nottbohm reading the marriage ceremony. Lorinda Giese, sister of the groom, was maid of honor, and Miss Mielke, the bride’s sister, and Mrs. Esther Potz, the bride’s aunt, were bridesmaids. The groom was attended by his friend, Edward Weisnich of Wausau, as best man and Wallace Wehrman of Colby, another friend, and Walter Potz of Spencer, the bride’s uncle. Ushers were Hugo Mielke of Colby, uncle of the bride, and Herbert Hoernke of Edgar, cousin of the groom, [one line missing] and Ernest Wenzel, were the little bride and groom.

The bride was attired in a gown of white satin with long sleeves, round neck, and lace outlining the yoke, waist and train, long veil edged with imported lace and fastened to a pearlized tiara. Her shower bouquet consisted of white roses and glads. Her attendants wore dresses of green, orchid and yellow rayon respectively, with hoop skirts and wore bonnets with seed pearls. All had shower bouquets of roses and glads. The little bride wore a white dress, identical to that of the bride, a bonnet and carried a basket of flowers.

A reception was held at the home of the bride. About 100 guests were served dinner and supper. The home was decorated with yellow, green, orchid and white streamers and a three-tiered wedding cake. Out of town guests were from Wausau, Edgar, Stratford, Aniwa, Marshfield, Waukesha, Spencer, Chicago and Kewaskum.

The couple left on a wedding trip to Yellowstone Park and will be at home after two weeks on the groom’s farm east of Colby.

The bride is a graduate of Colby High School, class of 1948, and the groom is a graduate of Abbotsford High School, class of 1943, and attended River Falls College one-half year.
