Harmel, Arthur F. #2 (21 APR 1890 – 25 JUN 1942)

Arthur F. Harmel, 45, of Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.) was laid to rest Monday, June 29 in the Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery. He had passed away last Thursday, June 25, 1942, at the Veteran’s Hospital at Hines, Ill.; suffering from cancer of the bladder. Final rites were read by Rev. MC. Goetsch from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

He was born on April 21, 1890 at Raymond, Minn. On March 2, 1935 he was united in marriage to Martha Smith at Winona, Minn., where he was engaged as a barber. The past four years he had resided in the village of Curtiss and previous to that made his home at Hazel, S.D.

Mr. Harmel was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Lutheran Church.

His passing is mourned by his wife and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Harmel, three sisters, Mrs. Clara Furstenneau, Hazel, S.D; Mrs. Harold (Alvina) BusKrud and Helen, Rochester, Minn.; two brothers, Victor, Watertown, S.D.; and Adolph, Bryan, S.D.; two stepsons, George, who is with the Army Air Corps at Sheppard Field Texas and Cameron, who is in South Carolina, and a stepdaughter, LaVonne Smith of Watertown, S.D.

Pallbearers at the service were: Archie Ackerman, Arthur Thompson, Frank Schiszik, Grant Herrick, Oscar Heibsch and Albert Klessig.

Flower girls were: Martha Mowery, Margaret Stock, and Betty and Bernice Ackerman.

Among those from away that were able to attend the funeral services were his three sisters.
