---Hoeft, Gustav Frederick (29 JAN 1849 – 15 OCT 1932)

Gustav Frederick Hoeft was born January 29, 1849 in Schniedermuhl, Provinz Posen, Germany, and passed away at his home in the town of Holton Saturday October 15, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 17 days, the cause of his death being heart trouble.

He served as a soldier in the German army as field artillery man in Regiment Number 2 during the war of 1870 – 1871.

In November of 1872 he came to America and settled in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and on March first 1874, was united in marriage to Miss Maria Zolltheis of Sheboygan.

In 1881 they came to what is now the town of Holton, but at that time was an unbroken wilderness. From that wilderness he builded a modern farm in the half century he has lived here.

He leaves to mourn his parting, his wife and seven children, one child preceeding him in death. The children are, Frederick, Elizabeth and Louis, at home, Mrs. Wm. Klieman, Mrs. Frank Schultz and Otto, all of the town of Holton, and Gustav of Abbotsford. Also eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, and three brothers, August, Rudolph, and Theodore, all of the town of Holton.

He was laid at rest Tuesday afternoon from Christ Lutheran Church the Rev. Brandt officiating.

Those attending the funeral from out of town were Mrs. Paul Hoeft and son of Ladysmith, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Marks and family of Milwaukee, Mr. Oscar Stroota of Marathon City, and Mrs. Fred Marks and Mrs. Arnold Stroota of Colby.
