Yelke, May (Marriage – 28 June 1951)

Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Yelke of Colby announce the marriage of their daughter, May, to Robert Becvar, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Becvar of Chicago.

The double-ring ceremony was performed at 5:45 P.M. on Thursday, June 28, 1951, at St. Agnes church in Chicago. The couple was attended by Helen Yelke, sister of the bride, and Ronald Becvar, brother of the groom.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, was attired in a ballerina gown of white. The bodice was of chantilly lace with long sleeves coming to a point at the wrist. The bodice had a deep V-shaped neckline, front and back, with inserted yoke of net and a Peter Pan collar of chantilly lace. The full skirt was of net over satin. She wore a finger-tip veil, attached to a crown of seed pearls and beads. The bouquet she carried was a cascade arrangement of a white orchid surrounded by African lilies and stephanotis.

The maid of honor wore a turquoise ballerina dress of rayon faille with a flesh colored net yoke and a wide lace collar of turquoise which formed cap sleeves. The skirt of the dress was very full. Her headpiece was a pleated crown-shaped hat of the same material as the dress. She carried a cascade bouquet of red happiness roses. The bride’s mother wore a sheet print dress and had an orchid corsage. The groom and his attendant wore dark trousers and white jackets. The groom’s brother, John Becvar, ushered.

A dinner was served the bridal party and immediate relatives and friends in a private dining room of “The Nantucket.” A reception was held later in the evening at the home of the groom’s aunt for friends and relatives. A three-tiered wedding cake, topped with a miniature bride and groom, adorned the table. A luncheon was served.

The couple left on a two weeks’ honeymoon. For traveling, the bride chose a brown and white pin check suit with white accessories and wore the orchid from her bridal bouquet.

The couple will reside in Chicago where both are employed and will be at home to friends after July 16.
